Lady Llanover

2nd May - 16th October 2016

Lady LlanoverIn Spring 2002 Abergavenny Museum and Gwent Record Office produced an exhibition to mark the 200th anniversary of the birth of Augusta Hall, Lady Llanover. The display looked at her life, the Llanover estate and aspects of Welsh Culture, such as traditional costume and the Welsh triple harp. On display were artefacts from the musems own collections, including a glass and silk leek which was given by Lady Llanover to one of her estate workers and prizewinning items from the Eisteddfodau held in Abergavenny. We also borrowed Cymregeddion medals from St Fagans Museum and items from Lord and Lady Llanover's Church in Abercarn. A day school in May was attended by over 120 people, and papers were given by Prys Williams, Helen Forder and Elonwy Wright, the Llanover Reel was performed by pupils from Llanover School. Also in May over 300 school children visited and spoke to 'Lady Llanover's housekeeper', and learnt about the triple harp from well known triple harpist Robin Huw Bowen.
