The project has developed into a multi -media response to landscape, oak, coal, salt and alchemy.
Sarah Rhys is an inter-disciplinary artist. She is interested in Place and uses a range of media from sculptural installations, projections, drawing, photography and artist’ books. She originally studied Architectural Glass at what is now Swansea Metropolitan Art School, before going on to taking an MFA at Bath Spa University and more recently studying Multi-Disciplinary Print Making at the University of the West of England, Bristol
The accompanying book, “Coal Tree Salt Sea”, documents and expands on the project that began in Ystradgynlais with the ’Coal Tree’. This led Sarah to explore salt mines in Poland as a counterpart to the coal mines in South Wales, this was followed by an invitation to the Czech Republic where she made “Charcoal Tree” and “Shroud”
