Celts & Romans

Aims

To support the teaching of the Celts and Romans, making connections to local history and Curriculum Cymreig where appropriate. Pupils will find out more about the impact of the Roman invasion on Celtic society.
To provide pupils with the opportunity to use skills of historical enquiry, to make judgements about the past and to foster a sense of chronology.
To use historic accounts and objects to help pupils to identify differences between modern life and life in the past.

Houses & Homes (The Victorian Kitchen)

Aims

To introduce pupils to the history of homes, focusing in particular on the Victorian era and making connections to local history and Curriculum Cymreig where appropriate.
To provide pupils with the opportunity to use skills of historical enquiry and interpretation and to foster a sense of chronology.

A Victorian Christmas

Aims

To introduce the children to life in Victorian Britain by comparing and contrasting the lives of rich and poor Victorian children with the lives of children today.
To provide pupils with an opportunity to find out how different people celebrate well-known events.
To use historic accounts and objects to help pupils to identify differences between modern life and life in the past.

Victorian Work & Leisure

Aims

To introduce children to everyday life in Victorian Britain, with particular reference to the local area.
To allow children to find out some of the ways their local area changed during the Victorian era, and some of the reasons for those changes.

Play & Pastimes

Aims

To use the historic collections of the museum in conjunction with contemporary toys and games to foster a sense of chronology and to learn how the past is different from the present.
To promote speaking and listening skills with particular emphasis on language relating to the passing of time.
To use games of the past and present to find out more about the characteristics of action rhymes and songs.
