Abergavenny Museum now has Castle Discovery Boxes, for schools to find out more about Life in the Medieval and Tudor Period at Abergavenny Castle. School groups can find out more about Castle Households, Historic Hats and Arms and Armour by looking at and trying on replica artefacts. The workshop is designed to be completely self directed and laminated information sheets are provided so no prior knowledge is required.
“It was exciting for staff and pupils to open the box and see what was inside….superb resources…wouldn’t change a thing”
The workshop takes about two hours and is free of charge. Information is available in English and Welsh. As well as meeting the needs of the history curriculum, it also fits in with local studies. Further activities can be provided such as a Town Trail if you would like to extend your visit. Schools that have recently visited have successfully combined this workshop with a visit to the Tithe Barn.
